  2. Brenda Patterson says:

Hi all! I have a question.I am looking to lose weight with soy protein shakes(scifit soy).I wanted to use this as meal replacement and just have a healthy dinner. How many shakes should I drink per day to LOSE weight?

    Thank you!

    • Steve says:

Well you could try a strategy similar to SlimFast and drink two shakes a day, eat 1 meal under 500 calories, and enjoy 3 small snacks consisting of fruit, veggies, or some other healthy snack of 200 calories or less.

      Try this:
Breakfast – Protein shake + 1 piece of fruit
Brunch – another piece of fruit, or a couple servings of veggies, or a serving of light Activia yogurt, or a serving of cheese with a serving of whole grain crackers
      Lunch – Protein shake
Linner – another piece of fruit, or a couple servings of veggies, or a serving of light Activia yogurt, or a serving of cheese with a serving of whole grain crackers
Dinner – a meal with meat, veggies, whole grain carbs, try to keep it at or under 500 total calories

    • Todd says:

I wouldn’t recommend this strategy at all. If it’s not sustainable, it’s not right. Shakes are a good supplement, but shouldn’t be used as a meal replacement.

    • Steve says:

I throw a bunch of stuff into my shakes when I’m making muscle gain shakes – fruit, flax, acai powder, bananas, protein powder, 2% milk, and more… When using shakes for fat loss, I stick to skim milk and plain protein powder.

  24. Supplements says:

what about raw eggs in your protein shake? Anyone try that?

    • Steve says:

I have never done a raw egg protein shake, but I know many folks who have. I don’t think it adds anything special to your diet, so you’re better off just using egg protein powder in your shakes, if that’s what you’re after.

  25. My favorite powder is the Shakeology powder too, can’t go wrong if Horton endorses it. Thanks for this list, I’m always looking for new protein shake recipes. I have a mix recipe below as well, you can eat it like oatmeal, or even make cookies!

1 or 2 scoops protein (depending on your powder of choice)
    1/2 cup oats
    1 tbsp natural PB
    1 tsp raw honey
1/4 cup boiled water (might require less – again depends on your powder and consistency you prefer)

  28. Rob H. says:

Freaking awesome. I get soooo bored of my typical protein shake recipe, there are about 10 I will give a go. Not sure about the candy bar ones, but some of the “Best . . .” ones I will have to test. Thanks again, -Rob

  29. Protein Shakes like these are excellent to help muscles recover after doing extensive workouts. You need healthy protein to allow muscles to recover faster and I personally enjoy the variety. I can’t drink protein shakes with “milk” based products as I am lactose intolerant and many store bought shakes have milk in them.

  30. My favorite is the blueberry blaster. Other bloggers have mentioned that ground up blueberry powder will help with weight loss, although that is not what you are looking for here. But I don’t know if I believe that blueberry powder will actually help with weight loss. It certainly won’t taste like real blueberries.

  31. [...] Protein shakes are excellent nutrition supplements for your fitness regime. They are wealthy in iron and connected minerals and help you to build muscles really very easily. Click here to know far more about protein shakes &#13 [...]

  32. I’d like to add one, my favorite:

    I call it Coconut ChocoMilk:

1 Can of Coconut Milk, full-fat
2 Scoops of Chocolate Whey Protein
    1 Cup of blueberries
    1 Cup of strawberries
    1 Medium Banana
    1 Cup of coconut flakes

It’s delicious. Might be enough as a meal for two people, but I’m quite the eater so I can down one of those by myself.

  38. protein shakes are always good to take especially for teenagers. always a drink after exercise and if you wish, you can take one for breakfast. this is what I do because I have never time to prepare breakfast. However, if you want to gain weight, be sure to eat a lot, but if you keep winning and Arent, get a gainer.

  39. Regev Elya says:

Excellent post. I like the recipes, though I would recommend people to use organic, cage free Eggology egg whites for protein instead of processed supplements.

Again, excellent recipes, definitely gave me some ideas.

    Way to go buddy!

  40. Protein shakes can be a great source of energy. I know when I was training hard to get certified for pilates, there were many nights I went the route of a shake instead of a meal.
