Foolproof Ways to Bust Out of a Fitness Rut

Posted December 17, 2018 in Motivation No Comments »

In every person’s life who’s devoted to their fitness regime, there comes a time when you just can’t do it anymore. It all goes around in circles, and you become fed up with your work out sessions. Instead of lifting your spirits and making you feel good, you just end up walking away more frustrated.

This is the point where most people give up and undo all their hard work. The truth is, all you have to do is overcome this point and you’ll be more productive than ever. Thankfully, there are some foolproof ways you can do this without wasting any time or energy.

1. Complete various challenges

The internet is full of fun, crazy, and spontaneous fitness challenges. If you’re looking to switch up your routine and get out of a rut, you can try some of them. It doesn’t hurt to get out of your comfort zone. Commit yourself to a challenge you find interesting and watch your motivation rise.

You can even try filming yourself doing it and gain support on social media. The external support might be the factor you’re missing from your regular workout routine and the cause of your lack of energy and interest. So get creative and wild, and nail every online challenge you find.

2. Rest a little

Sometimes the reason for being stuck in the rut is that your body is too tired. Maybe you’ve overworked yourself in the previous months and are only now paying for it. Instead of powering through, you should let your body rest. If you just keep forcing yourself hoping it’ll get better, you’ll get into an even bigger rut.

When resting, it’s often that you lose the motivation to start up once again when you feel okay. To avoid this, don’t cut out your workout routine from your life entirely. Try dialling it down a notch and doing only the exercises you really like. This should help you maintain your routine while also letting your body heal.

3. Switch with a friend

If you have a friend who’s going through the same stage you are, you can help each other out. They probably have a workout tailored to their needs as you do to yours, so it’s a wise idea to switch your regimes. This way you’ll both do something new and break your patterns. It might even get you to appreciate your old routine once again after you’ve had a break from it.

Who knows, you might even get some new ideas from your friend and incorporate some of their routine into yours. Whatever the case, you’ll get a taste of something different and exciting and it just might be the thing you need to get out of your rut.

4. Try supplements

Most people stir away from supplements due to the fear they’ll do more harm than good. The trust is, they can fuel your body and give it more strength as well as help it heal after an intense session. If you choose trustworthy brands such as True Protein, you can be sure that you’re only ingesting quality supplements which won’t do anything to harm you. Depending on what you need, you can choose from a range of carbohydrates and proteins, among other things. What’s more, if you’re vegan, you’ll get the added kick you need with no issues. Just remember that the supplements can’t be your main source of energy. They only serve as the bonus you need to get back to the top of your game.

5. Take it outside

Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery.  Going outside to exercise can reset your brain and making working out as fun as it used to be. After all, being cooped up in your room or at the gym can seriously deter your motivation. The same four walls all the time just scream for a change of routine.

Go for a jog and get some fresh air, or workout in your backyard under the sun. It’ll completely rejuvenate you and kick-start your energy and motivation. The outdoors is fairly dynamic, too, so you’ll never get bored no matter what kind of workout you opt for. Depending on your level of skill, you can go for a mild cycling session around the neighbourhood, or come up with a high intense outdoor routine.

Conclusion

As you can see, all hope doesn’t have to be lost. You can still excel at your workout regime and find joy in it as much as you did when you first began working out. You just need to shake things up a little and you’ll be back to your old self in no time. Don’t let this small obstacle stop you from reaching your fitness dreams and pushing yourself to be the best you can be.
