Business is booming for the health and fitness industry. Gym memberships have soared from 46.4 million in 2003 to nearly 52.6 million in 2013. In addition to that, the number of fitness centers has increased from 26,830 in 2009 to 29,960 in 2011. The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) speculates that the U.S. health club industry has cleared over $21 billion dollars in revenue.

The health and fitness industry’s continued growth, despite the economic recession, has resulted in expos and trade shows popping up around the country. This post will highlight some of the bigger and more influential upcoming trade shows and expos for the health and fitness industry.

Arnold Expo

IHRSA for a Healthier America

The aforementioned International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association will be hosting their 11th Annual IHRSA for a Healthier America on May 14th in Washington, DC, at the Top of the Hill Conference Center. The Summit is meant to bring together health club operators across the company to envision the fitness club of the future and how it can act as a primarily solution to the inactivity crisis in America.

At The Summit, club operators and industry professionals will explore the opportunities for health and fitness clubs to make a positive impact on their communities.

Health and Fitness Business Expo

The Health and Fitness Business Expo launched in 1997 as a platform to bring together manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, and buyers together in one place. Every year, thousands gather at the expo to see the latest innovations in the Specialty Fitness market.

Attendees at this expo will see some of the latest gear from the industry’s top companies, and hear lectures from experts across the company. This year’s Health and Fitness Expo will be held in Las Vegas on Wednesday, September 18th, and Thursday, September 19th.

Novo Nordisk Health & Fitness Expo

The Novo Nordisk Health & Fitness Expo will be held from May 3rd-4th at Monmouth Park as part of the New Jersey Marathon Festival. An estimated 18,000 people will attend the event which is free and open to the public. This year, there will be a free speaker series.

Attendants will be able to learn the latest tips for racing, nutrition, health, hydration, and injury preventions. There will also be free exercise and yoga classes.

A couple of charities will also be in attendance at the Novo Nordisk Health & Fitness Expo.

  • The MORE Foundation Group, a non-profit foundation that brings technology and training to poor farmers and villages in West Africa, will be at the expo to collect used athletic shoes. These shoes will be sold in major metro areas and the proceeds from these sales will help West African farmers.
  • Move for Hunger, a non-profit that works with moving companies across the country to support local food banks, will be conducting a food drive during the expo.

The Alive! Expo

The Alive! Expo brands itself as being the major natural products and green living consumer event. Local and national companies that specialize in natural and organic products and foods, green and ecofriendly products for the home, and naturopathic and alternative practitioners gather at the expo every year to showcase their products and services to thousands of consumers.

At this year’s expo, which will be held on May 4th and 5th in Atlanta, attendants get to experience:
Wine Tasting

  • interactive Pilates and yoga demos
  • live lectures
  • natural and organic foods
  • natural pet products

Healthy Living Expo

The Healthy Living Expo is the largest health, fitness, nutrition, and green living event in Tennessee. This expo offers interactive and educational exhibits, demonstrations, and presentations.

At this year’s expo, which will be held in Nashville on September 28th, visitors can enjoy demonstrations from local chefs, dietitians, and nutritionists at the Eat Right Stage as well as eat samplings from exhibitors. The Get Active Stage will showcase fitness through movement with demonstrations ranging from karate to Pilates.

Pepsi Beverage Company will also have a section set up to promote their new line of hydrating waters designed for people who live active lifestyles.
