Congratulations to the Florida Gators and Tim Tebow

Sorry for posting so many sports related rants lately, but it’s playoff time for both college football and NFL. I just can’t help it. =)

The Florida Gators beat Oklahoma in the FEDEX BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

Final score: Gators 24 – Oklahoma 14

Hero of the Game:

None other than the man Tim Tebow himself – 231 yds passing, 2 td, 2 int; 109 yds rushing

Honorable Mentions:

Percy Harvin – 122 yds rushing, 1 td; 49 yds receiving

Ahmad Black – a key interception that pretty much sealed the win

Game Play

The reality is that Tebow carried the Gators to a win. He basically took over in the second half, specifically the 4th quarter, and dominated the field. While he wasn’t spectacular throughout the game, he put out when it mattered most.

Aside from that, the Florida defense did a pretty good job of keep Heisman winner Sam Bradford and the rest of the Oklahoma offense from scoring. Gators D also had 2 crucial goal line stands and 2 interceptions.

Controversy

College football fans at this point are fed up with the whole bowl game system. This year Utah went 13-0, squashing Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, while Florida and a whole bunch of other teams lost at least one game.

I am a Gators fan, but seriously, how do a bunch of one loss teams beat out the undefeated team for a chance to play in the BCS championship game? I now want to see Florida play Utah so we can figure out who is the REAL #1 team in college football.

Hopefully by 2011 we will have a better college football playoff system, than the one we have now. Here is an interesting read on how Obama and the Senate are approaching the topic of college football playoffs.

Clearly there are more important things for politicians to worry about right now, but the college football playoff issue should be fixed before 2011.

What’s Next?

I really hope Tim Tebow stays with Florida for his senior season. It will be great to watch him break every record in the books next year, plus he could use the experience to get better by preparing for the NFL. Plus he’ll probably win another Heisman and another championship.

Most NFL scouts don’t think Tebow has what it takes to be a QB at the NFL level. Many say he should switch to half back, full back or linebacker. I disagree. I say give the man a chance to prove that he has the kind of intangibles that elevate great players to premier levels.

We know he can pass, run, block, and most importantly, inspire and lead a team. You can do it Tim! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t!

Tim Tebow is most surely a Project Swole icon.

Share the Swole!

  1. It’s exciting that Big Red is joining the Big 10. Next year promises to be challenging for the competition. Yowzers

  2. I’ve been out from the loop with football too long. I loved it as a kid, growing up. Being from Texas, it had been always the Cowboys. Back then, the heroes were Roger Staubach and Tom Landry. Afterwards, after going to California, I found myself now and again rooting for John Brodie of the 49ers, but it surely was always Cowboys once the two came head-to-head. At this time, I’m retired. The demands of due dates, personal campaigns and endless errands have diminished. And I wax nostalgically for the gridiron plus the excitement of the tournament. Yes, I will be watching a great deal more football. You can bet on it.
