Google Thought Project Swole was Hacked

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Hi everyone. I know Swole was marked as a Malware spammer for the last couple of days. I promise you, there was no Malware. Google seems to have been freaked out by a JavaScript file that’s used for localization. I replaced all those files anyway and now I think we’re in the clear. Real content posts will be published just shortly.

Powerzone Fitness: The Best Gym in New Hampshire

Monday, July 11th, 2011

I finally joined a gym that’s worth blogging about. It is called Powerzone Fitness and it’s located in Hooksett, NH.

Check out their website here: Powerzone Fitness and their Yahoo Local page with a 5 star rating and 4 glorious reviews here: Powerzone in Hooksett, NH

Why is Powerzone Fitness the best gym in NH?

  • It is open 24×7. You get in after hours with an access card.
  • No one is ever there. Turn the lights and fans on, crank your own music on the radio.
  • No crazy meat heads taking up all the machines. It’s like the opposite of Gold’s Gym in Manchester, NH. If you ever go there you’ll know what I mean.
  • It is owned by a former powerlifter. That means you can deadlift, lift over your head, and grunt without getting in trouble.
  • They supply the chalk. Like using chalk when you deadlift or do Olympic lifts? They have a box of chalk beside the power rack.
  • The have a power rack. They have a smith machine too, but they only use it for shrugs.
  • Dumbbells up to 120 lbs. Not bad.
  • They have a reverse hyper machine! It’s old, but it works.
  • Training at Powerzone is like working out in your own personal basement gym, except they actually have all the equipment you could need.

The No-Gym Workout Routine

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Update: Here’s an old post I put together right quick for someone who just needs a quick workout at home. Originally posted on May 3, 2007.

At times you will find yourself unable to get to the gym or dojo. Things in life just happen. So we do we do in a time like this? Strongmen will find that keeping various equipments around the house such as a sled, a large tire, a yoke, a keg, a sledgehammer, or even a 10lb wedge for splitting logs, will keep us completely satisfied when we need to workout but can’t make it to the gym. Therefore, this article is targeted more towards the people that are vacationing or on a business trip away from home, and perhaps for those strongmen that want a change from log presses, keg carries, and truck pulls, for a week or so.

Health Blog for Sale – Get it for the New Year’s Resolution Rush!

Friday, December 17th, 2010

A friend of mine is selling his health blog. You can view the auction here: https://flippa.com/auctions/116568

This is a PR4 health and fitness blog with a 446668 Alexa rank, 2006 registration date, and just under 30,000 page views per month. It has 190 pages of unique content indexed in Google and already gets 70% of its traffic from search engines.

Make Money Online

If you are interested in making money online, or someone in the health industry that needs exposure online, consider buying Better Body Journal (BBJ). It has solid monthly revenue, and is considered an authority in the health niche. Traffic is consistent and grows every time a new article is written.

Search Engine Trust and Authority

It takes a lot of work to break into the health niche online. A site like BBJ gives you an incredible head start. The site is 4 years old and there is no way someone would ever catch up to that with a brand new website. This is an affiliate marketer’s diamond in the rough.

A Lazy Website Owner

I know the owner personally and he is very lazy with this site. This guy has a goldmine ripe for harvesting with BBJ, but he’s so busy making money other ways that he never updates the site and yet it still gets decent traffic and makes several hundred dollars a month without effort.

The Better Body Journal website has never come close to reaching its full potential. A new owner that is dedicated to it can easily increase its revenue to $1,000 or more every month. Especially with the New Years Resolutions coming up, you’ll probably make a grand in January 2011 alone!

Let Me Whine for a Minute

If I only had some investment capital I would grab this site today and promote P90X and supplement offers like crazy. Just bust out some SEO strategies, start using social profiles, network with other bloggers in the niche, get some bookmarks, and you’ll probably have a sub 100,000 Alexa ranking in no time flat.

Unfortunately I’m pretty broke thanks to medical bills, student loans, and family expenses; and since my “friend” here wants at least $4000 for this site, there is no way I could buy it. In fact I know when someone buys this thing and puts like 6 months worth of effort into it, I’m going to be so pissed off because I will have missed a golden opportunity.

Now Go Place a Bid at the Auction

Therefore, if you don’t want to miss your golden opportunity go to the BBJ Flippa auction and buy BBJ today. I will be envious of you and will probably kinda hate you, but none of that will matter when you are banking a couple extra grand a month. Just please don’t remove my homepage link on the sidebar.

Oh I’m so aggravated right now.

Introducing FitMarker.com

Friday, December 10th, 2010

I want to tell you about a pretty cool new website today. If you’ve been hanging around the health and fitness website industry for a while now, you might remember HealthRanker, a health news social voting site, where popular articles are voted to prominence and end up on page 1. Well, HealthRanker was bought and destroyed a year or so ago, my attempts to make a clone called FitWire failed miserable, and now there is a new player on the scene.

What is Hive Health Media?

  • Hive Health Media is first and foremost a website that feels like a blog and acts like a newspaper.
  • A network of the best health, fitness, food, and nutrition bloggers online.
  • A source of unique, innovative content about your favorite health topics.
  • A tool that you can use to drive traffic to your website by submitting guest posts.
  • A tool that you can use to increase your visibility to Google and get more search engine traffic.
  • A way for the little blogger to compete with industry giants like Mens Health, Diets in Review, and Live Strong.
  • An avenue to make some extra money when you decide to join the network.
Alexa Graph
Swole vs. Mens Health, Live Strong, and Diets in Review: No Contest

How to Increase Productivity: Stop Working, Go to the Gym

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
Brain Exercise
Exercise your body to exercise your brain.

How to Increase Productivity

I know some of you out there work 60, 70, 80 hour weeks. I know some of you also work 14,16,18 hour days. Hell, I’ve put in 36 hours straight writing computer code day and night to meet a deadline before. We all do it: we work too much!

Experts are finding out now that the best way to increase productivity, is to work less. That’s right, people who work 35-40 hours a week get the most out of their time. After the first 40 hours efficiency, speed, and quality all begin to deteriorate.

Companies that limit their employees’ working hours to 35 a week, typically have to employ less Quality Assurance (QA) testers, because their employees make far fewer mistakes. That is a multi-directional savings plan – save your employees health and save money by getting rid of half your QA staff (or just don’t hire them to begin with).

Do Not Use Dr. Mostafa El Sherif as Your Dentist

Monday, July 26th, 2010
Dentist
Dentist

Here is my review of a local dentist from Concord, NH. Dr. Mostafa El Sherif is one of the few dentists in the area to specialize in cosmetic dentistry. He does lots of work on teeth whitening, bridges, implants, caps, veneers, etc… Too bad he’s rude, uncompassionate, and greedy.

Why to Avoid Dr. Mostafa El-Sherif

Dr. Mostafa El-Sherif is a scumbag. All he cares about is the almighty dollar. Let me tell you about a situation wherein Sally, we will call her Sally, had a loose veneer on her front tooth. It started to become so loose that after a while that it would fall out randomly while talking or walking and it caused her great stress while eating.

On the first visit, all Sally wanted was for Dr. El-Sherif to cement the tooth back onto its post while she saved up to pay for a full implant. Dr. El-Sherif refused, saying instead that it would be cheaper, easier, and better for everyone if she could just come back with the money to replace BOTH of her front teeth. Since the second tooth was also a veneer, he wanted to take both teeth out (extractions) and replace them with implants for well-over $10,000. He wouldn’t do a thing for her without that money up front.

Now, Sally has no dental insurance and she sure as hell doesn’t have $10k sitting in the bank. El-Sherif would not help her at all. Instead he left everything alone and refused to do any work until she could come up with the payment in full. All she wanted was to have the veneer cemented back onto the post so that it wouldn’t constantly bug her until she could save up for the implant.

Project Swole Redesign

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Hello everyone.

Please bare with me as I roll out the new design and functionality for Project Swole. There will be bugs and glitches, but I promise they will get worked out.

Please let me know what you like or dislike about the new layout, and if you discover anything broken, strange, or unexpected.

You will find most of the site navigation that used to be on the sidebar, now up in drop down menus at the top of the screen.

Thank you for your patience. Some great new content will surely follow, as soon as I can perfect the site.

Best,

Steve

Very Busy

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Hi everyone. I have a LOT of stuff going on right now, including the redesign of Project Swole and the integration of some social community plugins. Because of my schedule and work load I’ve been unable to post good stuff in the last week, and I still have 31 comments that I need to approve and respond to, as well as some e-mails from you guys that I need to answer.

Let me update you on what we have coming up at Project Swole:

  1. The top 5 best neck exercises
  2. A guest post, product review, and free product giveaway for the GymBoss interval timer from GymBoss.
  3. A super simple 3 day workout routine involving only 6 compound exercises and ab training.
  4. A daily fat loss routine tentatively titled “Swole for Summer 2k10”
  5. Probably a Werewolf Training for Power with some new techniques for building speed and power, and ultimately strength.
  6. Maybe a Werewolf Training for fat loss, but will probably just focus on Swole for Summer
  7. Building out a Project Swole Facebook page that I hope will be useful: Project Swole on Facebook
  8. Still working on that Project Shred diet… gotta have it done for summer!
  9. Project Swole will be turning into more of a social community with the possibility of a forum if it’s not too much of a hassle to moderate
  10. Much more!

That’s all for today, as I have to get back to work, but stay tuned.

What do you want to see on Project Swole?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Would you be interested to know that Project Swole will soon be undergoing a redesign? I’ve already expanded the layout to 1000 pixels where it was once only 800 pixels, but a whole new graphical layout is coming out shortly, and I’m thinking of installing the Social Networking plugin Mingle to let Project Swole readers connect with each other more easily. Project Swole 3.0 should be good.

Articles and Posts

I’ve received a ton of requests for new articles on Project Swole. Let me tell you what’s on my To Write List and you can add to it as you see fit by leaving me some comments.

I Have Been Hacked!

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

HackerIf anyone has been wondering why Project Swole has been randomly out of order over the last month, my primary server has been hacked.

I keep checking on the site to remove any offending code, and you are perfectly safe surfing, it’s just that every once in a while some malicious script overwrites the bottom portion of code on some of my files, causing a syntax error when your web browser tries to interpret the code.

I am still trying to get to the bottom of it, but everything should be cleaned up soon. Please don’t stop visiting. =)

I went on vacation for the 4th of July, so I haven’t posted in a couple days, but I am back now and a useful post will be coming soon.

Where Have I Been For Memorial Day Weekend 2009

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Looks like I haven’t posted in about a week now. That would be because:

  • I’ve been having great fun camping at White Lake State Park in Tamworth, NH.
  • My wireless Internet connection stinks so I’ve brought home the development PC sitting in the office that I never use anymore, so that I can hardwire it to the router.

Now that I am back online and back from camping, I anticipate posting again regularly until July 4th, when I will again go camping at White Lake State Park.

Upcoming Project Swole projects:

  • A 5×5 Minimal Effort Powerlifting routine based on some studies of old school training, Tony Robbins, and Pavel Tsatsouline. A spreadsheet will accompany the routine so you can plug in your numbers and print out your training log if you wish.
  • A 5×5 Speed-Strength Full Body routine, for those who feel limited by the 5×5 minimal effort powerlifting routine. The spreadsheet for this guy already exists, but I’m not offering it for download yet.
  • I still want to get out my Project Shred idea, but I haven’t had time to build it out the way I want. It will be a hardcore diet with meal equivalents that you can use to make up your own diet plan.
  • My fitness themed HealthRanker.com clone FitWire is live, but it doesn’t work the way I want and is not setup the way I want, so I am not ready to launch it yet. You can find it if you search for it, but I’m not ready to link to it or promote it yet.

Hopefully that stuff will be done soon. For now, just continue to lift and get Swole.

A Guest Post on Diets in Review

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Look, now I’m turning up in other places online!

Somehow dietsinreview.com gave me an opportunity to write a guest post. You can find it at How to Train Legs part 1.

I had originally written a 1500 word article for this, but ended up having to shorten it to 2, 500 word pieces. Now I know what it feels like when a Hollywood director is forced to cut 20 minutes off of his movie to be able to get his R rated movie down to a PG-13 rating.

Thanks to Diets in Review for giving me my first chance to write a unique guest post on a high profile website.

I also published a guest post from Heather Ashare of Diets in Review fame. You can find that post at Yoga for Men. Thanks Heather!

Reminder: CageFight MMA ‘Blunt Force Trauma’ This Saturday

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008
MMA Punch
MMA Punch

For those of you within 2 hours of Manchester, NH, there’s something fun and unique for you to do this Saturday night. Black and Blue Entertainment of Hooksett, NH presents their second ever Cage Fight Mixed Martial Arts event, which they are calling, “Blunt Force Trauma”.

The fights are put together by Roger Woo and Barbara Woo of Team Woo, an MMA team located in Hooksett, NH. The two of them alternate teaching my Thai Kickboxing class, and spend hours training and coaching the Team Woo fighters. Roger is also half owner of the previously mentioned Black and Blue Entertainment, which is organizing the event.

This is going to be a tight show. The first show went off with much praise and success, and this time there looks to be even more, higher quality match-ups. I would say 3/4 of the fighters last time had losing records; the winner of the main event was 4-15 coming into the fight. This time we will be watching some real competitors.

The current fight card looks like this (subject to change without prior notice):
