Project Swole Website Outage

Posted January 29, 2009 in Finances 1 Comment »

Sorry about the downtime today. Project Swole was down for over 12 hours this time.

It looks like we are still going to have to move to a dedicated server. The rest of this post is boring so either move on to a fitness related post or…

We are now approaching 100,000 unique visitors each month, and just about every other month we have exceeded our bandwidth limits on our current VPS setup. Just about every other month the site goes down for like half a day because I can’t get in touch with my VPS owning friend.

Therefore, Project Swole will officially be transferred to a dedicated server sometime in the month of February.

The budget is around $100 a month for the new server, but so far all I can find are packages for around $200 that include all the resources I anticipate needing in the near future.

Along from Project Swole, I will also be hosting a Pligg based news rating site along the lines of Health Ranker, which is just nearing completion of the initial development cycle.

There will also be numerous other domains hosted on the new server, along with the upcoming Project Shred release. Big plans for the future, I say.

In conclusion, if you know of a web host that offers a good setup with good support and CPanel for around $100, please let me know.

I figure I need the following basic resources:

  • 120-160 GB Sata HDD
  • Dual Core 2 GHz Processor
  • 2 GB SDRAM
  • CPanel / WHM
  • Linux

Let me know if you know of a good solution.

Share the Swole!

  1. I’ve been having two cans of Coffee almost everyday. I take it because I want to stay alert through out the day, especially during the time I have a list of tasks to do.
However I do not really like the sweetness of the coffee which is a lil over for me.
